Le Jarre Oakland 2014-2018

In 2014, my best friend Betty Noeume, an architect and designer, and I set out on a mission to start a business from scratch. Well before "Cake in a Jar" debuted on Shark Tank, we were influenced by the popularity of the chocolate souffles sold at Marica restaurant as well as personal desserts sold at French markets and delis. We set out to create a company that focused on sustainability, creativity, and giving back to the community. We made small desserts sold in environmentally friend reusable and recyclable jars. We envisioned aesthetically beautiful, handcrafted, high quality, affordable, accessible, individualized eat-anytime desserts, that would brighten everyone's day in a bite.

Eventually, the business became an LLC and branched out to custom dessert orders for special events, customized wedding cakes, wholesale dessert and pastry orders business to cafes, event centers (Oakland Ice Rink), restaurants, and coffee shops. Le Jarre worked closely with Oakland non-profits that benefit at risk, low income youth, first generation college high school students. Some of our most popular cakes were Triple Chocolate Mousse Cakes, Green Tea Mousse Cakes, Blue Bottle Cheesecake, Strawberry Cupcakes, Double Chocolate Chip Cookies, Ice Cream Sandwiches, and Tiramisu Cupcakes. 

The Le Jarre Venture was a success, and proves that anything is possible. Even though we didn't have any professional culinary and pastry chef training, we logged thousands of laborious practice and study sessions - Youtube, cookbooks, and bugging our culinary friends.
